Chapter 3: Spinning the Velvet Sky

With the spool safe, Barnaby trotted slowly back to the meadow. The Star-Weaver lowered a long ladder made of woven starlight, and Barnaby climbed up, step by slow step, until he sat beside her on the cool, silver curve of the moon.

Together, they attached the thread to her great wooden loom. As the Star-Weaver pushed the shuttle back and forth, the loom made a rhythmic, comforting sound: shhh-tick, shhh-tick, shhh-tick.

With every pass, a beautiful blanket of deep indigo and shimmering silver began to fall softly over the earth below. It tucked in the rolling hills, draped gently over the treetops, and smoothed out the ripples on the lake. The world beneath them became perfectly still, wrapped in a warm embrace of quiet.
